About OPIC2022

– International Congress on Emerging Fields and Exploratory Research in Optics and Photonics –

OPIC is the largest conference in OPTICS and PHOTONICS in Japan and one of the most vibrant events in this field worldwide, featuring Emerging Fields and Exploratory Research in Optics and Photonics.

Launched in April 2012 at Pacifico Yokohama, OPIC was created as a forum to discuss the future of our society realized by optics and photonics, based on the most updated knowledge and technologies worldwide, presented to an international audience at OPIC and OPIE (OPTICS and PHOTONICS International Exhibition). OPIC is also intended to promote activities of young researchers for scientific presentations and networking in the international environment.

OPIC marked its 10th anniversary last year. Since 2012, the number of Specialized International Conferences held within OPIC and the number of the participants have both increased. In OPIC2019, 14 Specialized International Conferences were held with 869 scientific presentations and over 1,200 participants from 45 countries.

Unfortunately, OPIC 2020 and OPIC 2021 had to be held as online virtual conferences with somewhat reduced scale due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the pandemic under control, OPIC2022 will be held in-person on 18-22 April, 2022 at Pacifico Yokohama on a larger scale, composed of 15 Specialized International Conferences including one newly started Conference.

Experiencing the virtual conferences, we have rediscovered the significance of the in-person meeting; inspirations for new and collaborative research often arise from informal conversations at coffee breaks, conference banquets, or in the hotel lobby, for example. OPIC2022 will increase these opportunities for direct interactions.

Following the previous OPIC traditions, OPIC2022 will coordinate closely with the collocated OPIE’22 to connect the research community with committed partners from industry.

We are looking forward to seeing you all in Yokohama!
